Ingredients of Potato Moussaka

  1. Prepare 1 lb of red potatoes.
  2. Prepare 1 lb of yams or sweet potatoes.
  3. You need 1 lb of ground beef.
  4. It's 1 can of 14.5 oz Italian stewed tomatoes.
  5. Prepare 1 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon.
  6. Prepare 1 tsp of ground cumin.
  7. It's 2 cup of milk.
  8. You need 1/4 cup of flour.
  9. It's 2 tbsp of butter.
  10. It's 1/2 tsp of ground nutmeg.
  11. You need 1 of salt and pepper to taste.
  12. You need 1 of egg yolk.
  13. It's 3 tbsp of grated parmesan cheese.

Potato Moussaka step by step

  1. Heat oven to 400°F.
  2. Cook potatoes in microwave 5-7 mins.
  3. Cook yams in microwave 7-9 mins.
  4. Brown beef in skillet.
  5. Add tomatoes, cinnamon and cumin. Simmer 3 mins.
  6. Combine flour, milk, butter and nutmeg in a saucepan over medium heat stirring constantly.
  7. Bring to boil and simmer one minute.
  8. Season with salt and pepper.
  9. Remove from heat and whisk in egg yolk.
  10. Thinly slice potatoes.
  11. Place half of potatoes and yams on bottom of 2 quart casserole.
  12. Layer meat then remaining potatoes and yams.
  13. Pour sauce on top.
  14. Sprinkle with cheese.
  15. Bake for 30 mins.
