Ingredients of Potato Moussaka
- Prepare 1 lb of red potatoes.
- Prepare 1 lb of yams or sweet potatoes.
- You need 1 lb of ground beef.
- It's 1 can of 14.5 oz Italian stewed tomatoes.
- Prepare 1 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon.
- Prepare 1 tsp of ground cumin.
- It's 2 cup of milk.
- You need 1/4 cup of flour.
- It's 2 tbsp of butter.
- It's 1/2 tsp of ground nutmeg.
- You need 1 of salt and pepper to taste.
- You need 1 of egg yolk.
- It's 3 tbsp of grated parmesan cheese.
Potato Moussaka step by step
- Heat oven to 400°F.
- Cook potatoes in microwave 5-7 mins.
- Cook yams in microwave 7-9 mins.
- Brown beef in skillet.
- Add tomatoes, cinnamon and cumin. Simmer 3 mins.
- Combine flour, milk, butter and nutmeg in a saucepan over medium heat stirring constantly.
- Bring to boil and simmer one minute.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Remove from heat and whisk in egg yolk.
- Thinly slice potatoes.
- Place half of potatoes and yams on bottom of 2 quart casserole.
- Layer meat then remaining potatoes and yams.
- Pour sauce on top.
- Sprinkle with cheese.
- Bake for 30 mins.
